Sworn in December 12th, 2022. Responding to the call to serve! Husband to a Female U.S.Marine Sergeant/,Nurse, Father, Grandfather, RETIRED, Machinist, Licensed Massage Therapist 8771. Civic duty activity over 3 years at East Bend Town meetings over 2 years on East Bend Planting/Zoning board currently the chair, Over 3 years on East Bend God and Country Celebration Committee. Summer of 2022 Volunteered for activities on East Bend parks committee.
Larry and his wife Judith have two sons and four grandchildren. He was awarded the Purple Heart in Vietnam. He is proud to serve the citizens of East Bend (where he was born and bred). He was first elected as Town Commissioner in 1981 for a four year term and was elected Mayor in 1985 and served three terms ending in 1991. He was appointed to the town board in January 2011 to fill a vacancy. He was elected again in that same year to serve as Mayor until 2015 (two terms). He was subsequently elected to the board in 2015 and has continued to serve to the present for a total of 20 years of service to the Town of East Bend.
Commissioner Held was sworn in on April 8th, 2024. I moved to East Bend in the early 90s and onto my wife's family farm. Our house was built in approximately 1903 and we are part of six generations of East Bend residences. I served on the zoning board about 15 years ago and have coached several town youth sports teams. Our family is very proud to call East Bend "home" and I consider it a honor to serve the town.
Commissioner Hobson was sworn in on May 9th. 2022 to fill a vacany. Ms. Hobson is currenly employed at the East Bend Post Office. She is a member of the East Bend Baptist Church and has lived in and/or worked in East Bend her whole life, and loves the town and the people. She is also a volunteer for the East Bend God and Country Celebration.
Commissioner Nichols was sworn in on December 14th, 2020. Neal Nichols is a member of East Bend Baptist Church, and serves on the deacon board there. Neal is a member of the American Legion, East Bend Post 336, where he serves as Road Captain, and Finance officer. Neal is also a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 10346. As a young man, Neal served 4 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam campaign. Neal then worked for Weyerhaeuser in Elkin, NC and retired with 29 years of service. Neal is a past president of the East Bend God and Country Foundation, Inc.
Sworn in December 14, 2020, Commissioner Eddie Venable is a retired public school teacher who currently teaches drivers education for the Yadkin County Schools. He enjoys reading, nature, and spending time with his wife, Susan and son, Brayden. He and his family attend Richmond Hill Baptist Church.
